A very engrossing discussion that touched upon a variety of aspects of the global reset that is currently underway.
5 years after the humiliation of Oct-Nov 1962, India stood up to Chinese bullying at Nathu La when Gen Sagat Singh gave the Chinese a bloody nose- literally. Ever since, militarily we have stood firm against the Chinese right up to Galwan in June 2020. Hence our standing up to the Chinese may not be the only overarching reason why the global reset is taking place the way it is & both of you have covered it exceedingly well.
IMHO that what has changed for us now in the reset is our economic growth. From a poor & ever hungry country with lofty moral positions on global issues who was always perceived as giving moral lectures to the powerful, we are suddenly the ones willing to put our money where our mouth is. Not too much has been said about us being the only country that came up with a 4 billion USD package for a foundering SL. We regularly roll over debts for recalcitrant countries like Maldives, even as China sends back its loyal vassal, Pakistan, empty handed. Global institutions rate our economy as the only saviour for the world’s economy.
This is the uncharted territory we are entering for the first time since 1947. From a ‘ship-to-mouth- economy we have transformed into being a saviour of the global economy! That to my mind, is the sole big reason why we figure in the global reset.
