I have always been of the opinion that the Agniveer Scheme is flawed since it adversely affects our combat efficiency. This war convinces me about its flaws even more. There is a need to modify it. Hamas handing of women also forces us to rethink about women in combat roles. A father’s message to me convinced me that I should at least air my views.
Want to give women a role in the military, by all means but understand and address a basic fact. Women have limitations and vulnerabilities, identify and accept them. Then assign appropriate roles . Simply shouting equality does not change the basic truth. Comparing ourselves with countries with populations less than Delhi who have major constraints of manpower and have to have woman in uniform is a misplaced comparison.
