BEYOND THE FACADE : CHINESE ANALYSIS OF PM MODI’S REMARKS

PM Modi’s remarks on relationship with China during the Lex Freidman podcast was statesman like. It has drawn some appreciation from Chinese official media. However when one looks behind the facade, the Chinese reaction has been negative. The Chinese on the whole feel that our PM’s outreach is more to do with a weak India being spurned by USA and India not being able to stand up to Chinese pressure. One issue emerges. Whatever we do, China cannot be trusted . Further, China will always seek to establish hegemony over India under any condition. That is a constant we will have to live with.

    Good morning Sir,

    Agree with your comments but surprised to no mention of the timing of naming the two counties followed by this seeming praise.

    Not sure, if I can correlate with a similar tactic of China’s occupation during Xi’ visit in the past. An internal non-alignment among the army was also mentioned in that context to explain the asymmetry in the visit and encroachment into our territory.
