The 3T plan of Trump is playing out in the Indo Pacific – Taiwan, Tehran and Tariffs. The general view that is emerging is that Trump’s long term aim is to contain China. Whatever he is doing at present is only setting the stage for achieving that. In this context, he has quietly but steadily beefed up US deployments in the Indo Pacific. He has also continued with the US policy of strategic ambiguity. In fact he has taken it to a next level. It is also to note that while the focus is on the Pacific, it is in the Indian Ocean that tensions are building up and Iran is now in his focus. Overall, India will have an important role to play in the emerging scenario and should prepare for it.
