Trump and the INDO PACIFIC are a set of contradictions. The US focus was always meant to be on the Pacific, but all action is happening in the Indo! Trump was expected to be hard on China but he is hard on his allies. In turn they are seeking accommodation with China! There is also a feeling that US alies have to learn to fend for themselves. Resultantly, there is resurgence of militarisation in the INDO PACIFIC which is tending towards nuclearisation. India will have a large role to play the INDO PACIFIC but will have to do so on its own in the IOR as the USA retains its focus on the Western Pacific. The Quad has questions to ask of itself…what is it be? The panel came up with very interesting propositions.
