Those who ignore their history are consigned to repeat it. The IPKF operations in Sri Lanka are now conveniently forgotten by our military and political establishment. It is as if those three years never existed in our military history. In my opinion, the sojourn in SriLanka was the crucible of fire through which the Indian Army evolved from being a conventional one dimensional force into one capable of handling complex hybrid operations successfully. We lost over a thousand soldiers in the process. Some of their graves are still lysing untended inthe jungles of Sri Lanka. OP Pawan is full of golden lessons which are as relevant today as they were then. We can ignore them at our peril. Some were discussed in this conversation. If you have an open honest mind to serve the best interests of India…see this.
