What are the lessons that can be drawn from the 1971 India Pakistan war which the Russians could have applied in the Ukraine war? This was the question which triggered this analysis. There are eerie similarities between these wars. Political objectives, planning considerations, preparation, training , soldiery, weather, terrain and more are comparable. While there were many things that were done right by India in the war of 1971, have we learnt from them? Are we in a better state than that time? Is the level of politico military thinking at the same plane as it was then? Have we gone back to the 1962 time? These are some of the questions which we need to find honest answers about.
