Mr Tahir Gora and I started our conversation with Pakistan and then drifted to Canada and Khalistani’s. In his opinion, Pakistan has lost its strategic value and will remain stagnant in its present situation due to multiple factors. He highlights that the Khalistani’s in Canada are deeply entrenched in its politics and are now influential in the country. The Khalistan factor will remain an irritant in Canada-India relations since any government in Canada will inevitably need the support of these elements. Additionally the Khalistani’s in Canada are well off and are supported by those settled in USA. These elements are a committed lot. On the other the NRIs, even in politics, are not committed or untied internally. This is a factor which will keep playing up and we will have to contend with.
