The popular perception is that there is no discussion about India in China and that they do not regard us their rivals / competitors. That is far from the truth. There is no denial of the fact that the discourse in the Chinese media is dominated by USA. China wants to reach a G2 status with USA and later be the sole super power. However there is also the realisation that India is emerging as a competitor. They even discuss the Kumbh Mela in detail as also all issues pertaining to society and culture in India in a derogatory manner. The broader trend line of discussion and attitude is the India is second rate country not worthy of even acknowledging its progress. While the Chinese thinking and strategy is not to acknowledge India’s progress, it is not being ignored.
