The Privileges of Command

Command of a unit is the most important assignment and a sacred responsibility given to an officer in the Indian Army. It has many facets and has no equal. In many respects and situations the Commanding Officer is the judge jury and excecutioner. His powers are awesome. With great power comes great responsibility. Hence command is an onerous privilege given to the few. It is not for seeking personal privileges. Lt Gen Satish Dua explains the nuances of command at various levels from section to platoon to company to battalion and beyond. We also discussed the issue of women in command which is trending for all the wrong reasons and in the wrong context. More will come in this series of command in the Army. Views welcome.
