Maj Gen Harsha Kakar (R) and I had a crisp and short discussion on Maldives and the situation there after the recent elections. It emerged that the new Prime Minister might have used an anti India plank for political purposes, but might not actually be so. Maldivian dependance on India is far too much for it to spurn India beyond a point. Moreover, India is the first responder for any situation in Maldives. It will be premature to think that Maldives will be pro China hereafter. In all conditions , we will have to wait and watch.
